Harry Kane appears to be leaving Tottenham this summer after serving the club with loyalty for 14 years. The 29-year-old has drawn interest from a number of clubs, including Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, but Bayern Munich are now in the lead for his services.
Following Spurs’ rejection of an initial £60 million ($77 million) approach for the attacker, it has been reported that the Bundesliga champions and Kane’s representatives have reached an agreement in principle. Tottenham may be forced to sell or risk losing Kane for nothing when his contract expires next summer if Bayern returns with an improved offer.
It’s no secret that Daniel Levy is reluctant to deal with a direct rival, which is why the Spurs chairman is said to have sought more than £100 million ($127 million) for Kane when United made preliminary inquiries about his availability earlier this year. Also, the Red Devils are unwilling to spend that much money.
When it comes to spending astronomical sums of money, United hasn’t held back recently. Players like Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku, Harry Maguire, Jadon Sancho, and Antony were all acquired for sums in excess of £70 million ($88 million). Nevertheless, they won’t put as much money into Kane, who is regarded as the best striker in English football history.
Still at his best
Despite leading the line for a disorganized squad lacking quality in all other parts of the pitch, the 2022–23 season was likely his greatest yet in a Tottenham shirt. For the second time in his career, Kane scored 30 goals in the Premier League, and he ended just six goals behind Erling Haaland of Manchester City in the race for the Golden Boot.
In the modern era, several great players have been able to extend their professional careers at the greatest level well into their thirties. In Kane’s place, Robert Lewandowski, who Kane may soon replace at Bayern, won the Pichichi trophy for the league’s top scorer last season as he led Barcelona to the championship in his first season with the team.
Karim Benzema, 35, won his first Ballon d’Or in December after scoring 44 goals the season before, and he only finished with four goals less than Lewandowski (19) in his final season at Real Madrid. Both athletes have taken care of their physical well-being and displayed the discipline required to play for a long time.
As well as Kane. During the next four to five years, the England international could very easily crack the starting lineup for any elite club in the world. Thus, United’s worry regarding Kane is completely illogical. There may be less expensive choices available, but no one is better for a center-forward position.
He has a lot of fans, including Ten Hag.
When asked if Kane might fit into his team before United’s 2-2 draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in April, Ten Hag responded with his customary tight-lippedness. The United manager stated, “I am preparing my team for a game against Spurs.” I don’t consider anything else because he is one of the Spurs players we will be facing.
Before exiting his press conference seat, Ten Hag couldn’t help but praise Kane, saying, “He is just a wonderful player with a great personality as well. The quantity of goals, and also his important acts [that] come to a goal, last passes as well.” Naturally, Ten Hag’s acclaim prepared the audience for a magnificent Kane performance.
If not now, when
It’s reasonable to say that Kane won’t ever play on the revered Old Trafford field if United doesn’t make another effort to sign him this summer. Kane must depart Tottenham right away if he plans to do so. A new deal would unavoidably follow should the seasoned front player decide to stay with Spurs for the 2023–24 season. The moment when Levy’s prized asset might become a free agent and leave the team is not something he will tolerate.
No matter where he plays, Kane will keep setting records and scoring goals. Without him, United’s arduous journey back to the pinnacle of the sport will go on indefinitely.
